Cheetah

The Cheetah is the world‘s fastest mammal. It can run about 96 kolometres per hour . These cats are quite nimble at high speed and can make quick and sudden turns in parsuit of prey . Most Cheetah are found in eastern and southwestern Africa .

Cheetah average life span in wild is about 10 to 12 years. Total size 1-1.4 metres, tail about 65-80 cm . Weight from 35 to 65 kg. The Cheetahs chest is deep and it‘s wwaist is narrow . Short fur is tan with round black spots measuring from 2 to 3 cm . The tail usually ends in a bushy white tuft. The Cheetah has a small head with high-set eyes Black tear marks running from the corner of eyes down keep sunlight out of it‘s eyes and aid in hunting and seeing long distance .

Female cheetahs typically have a litter of three cubs and live with them for one and a half to ttwo years. Young cubs spend their first year learning from their mother and practicing hunting techniques with playful games. Male cheetahs live alone or in small groups, often with their littermates. The cheetah is a carnivore, eating mostly mammals including tthe Thomson’s gazelle, the Grant’s gazelle, the springbok and the impala. The cheetah kills its prey by tripping it during the chase, then biting it on the underside of the throat to suffocate it; the cheetah is not strong enough to break the necks of most prey. The bite may also puncture a vital artery in the neck.

Perhaps only 7,000 to 10,000 of these big cats remain, and those are under pressure as the wide-open grasslands they favor are disappearing at the hands of human settlers.
